DESCRIPTION

The carnival festival is a pagan festival, it begins after the Orthodox Easter Sunday and lasts for three days. At the end of Orthodox Easter, along the alleys of the village of Narta, the sounds of clarinets and the joyful voices of dozens of young people are heard, who enliven the main square near the “Shën e Diela” church, throughout the three days of carnival. People with masks and typical carnival costumes dance in a circle to the sounds of musical instruments, also performing special rituals such as the bear game. The bear is one of the main symbols of the carnival in Narta. Young people take turns wearing the bear skin and others beat it to “tame it”. Legends about the meaning of the three days of carnival and the symbolism of the costumes are numerous: “Cholera struck Narta hundreds of years ago. "To escape the bitter reality of that time, our ancestors created carnivals, a celebration that has been used ever since to bring joy to the village."
